As gas prices go up and many of us putting our spending on a short leash we still have the desire for something new and fresh for our homes. Try re-creating something you already have. Many of us have a piece of furniture that could use a little pick me up or maybe go for a bold change all together. Here are a few tips on just how to do it.
First, asses the condition of your piece. See if it needs a little “love” before you get started. Such as a loose hinge or popped nail. Second, and this is the key to your success when painting any project. Sand it with 150 grit sand paper and give it a light sanding, just enough to scuff it a little. This doesn’t require much more energy than when you wash your own table after a little spilled milk. Give it a dusting and you are ready to roll (pun intended). You can use any good satin to glossy latex paint from a reputable paint store. When its time to apply paint use a good paintbrush or to make the job really quick use a ‘Wizz Roller” (found in any paint store). It’s a very small version of a roller you use for walls and they are perfect for this type of project. You will need to apply two coats of paint to ensure good coverage. Apply the second coat once the first one is dry to the touch. You can go a step further to protect your new finish with a layer of a clear coat, but it is not required. Top your piece off with some new hardware and you have yourself a whole new piece of furniture that cost you nothing more than a quart of paint and possibly some new hardware.
Remember, If you are looking for a new piece of furniture, you don’t have to look any further than your own living room.
